The Fairview Park school district named Mary Kurz, an educational aide at Fairview High School, as Employee of the Year and Sarah Eppler, a first-grade teacher at Gilles-Sweet Elementary, was awarded the Teacher of the Year.

Kurz has been with the school district for 32 years. “Mary is the type of person who can connect with each and every student despite their interests, ability, and personality,” according to nomination documents. “She has a warm smile and encouraging words when students need them most. She has the ability to make students feel as though they are the only person who matters when speaking to them.”

Eppler has been with the district for five years. Nomination form comments included: “I have never known a teacher that loves their job as much as Sarah. To her, every unexpected challenge is an opportunity to learn and grow. She is the type of educator that makes not only her students, but the staff that work with her strive every day, to be better than yesterday! She is an absolute gift to her students, her colleagues, her friends, and her family.”
