The weather is predicted to be beautiful for the many parades planned in the Westshore communities to honor Memorial Day, a day set aside to honor and remember those who have died while serving in the Armed Forces. Here is a list of some of the parades.

AVON LAKE

Parade: 10 a.m.-noon Monday

Where: Start at Avon Lake High School, 175 Avon Belden Road, and end at Veterans Memorial Park, 32756 Lake Road.

BAY VILLAGE

Parade: 8:45 a.m. Monday

Where: Huntington Park, 28728 Wolf Road, marching west on Lake Road to Lakeside Cemetery.

More info: After services and recognition of the city founders, the parade reforms on Lake Road and marches east to Cahoon Road and turns south to end at the Cahoon Park Gazebo for ceremonies at 9:45 a.m. This year’s speaker is John Murphy, the 13th District commander of the American Legion.

FAIRVIEW PARK

Parade: 9 a.m. Monday

Where: At Corrigan Craciun Funeral Home, West 208th Street and Lorain Road

More info: We Do Care will hold its annual observance in the rotunda at City Hall at 8 a.m. All are invited to attend. Following the ceremony, the annual parade starts at approximately 9 a.m. The parade, led by the American Legion Post 738 Color Guard, will guide all to the Fairview Park Cemetery, where the Legion will honor all veterans.

NORTH RIDGEVILLE

Parade: 9:45 a.m.-noon Monday

Where: North Ridgeville Senior Center, 7327 Avon Belden Road, ends at the Middle School Ranger Stadium.

More info: A ceremony dedicated to veterans and all who serve in the military will follow the parade.

OLMSTED FALLS

Parade: 9 a.m. staging, 9:30 a.m. start

Where: City Hall, 26100 Bagley Road, east on Bagley to Columbia Road, north on Columbia Road to Harding Memorial Bridge

 

ROCKY RIVER/LAKEWOOD

Parade: 10 a.m. Monday

Where: Rocky River High School, 20951 Detroit Road, west to Lakewood Park Cemetery

More info: Ceremony following parade to honor veterans and the fallen. Parking is available at Rocky River Presbyterian Church. Volunteers are invited to go to the cemetery at 8:30 a.m. Saturday to help the American Legion place about 3800 American flags on the graves of veterans.

SHEFFIELD LAKE

Parade: 8 a.m. Monday

Where: Amvets Post 55 flag ceremony, Veterans Memorial Park, 4045 Tennyson Ave.

VFW Post 8686, Memorial Day ceremony, 11 a.m., 577 Harris Road

WESTLAKE

When: 10 a.m. Monday

Where: St. Peter and George Church, 25800 Hilliard Blvd. to Clague Park at the northwest corner of Clague Road and Hilliard Boulevard.

More info: Ceremonies will be held at the Gazebo. Guest speakers are retired U.S. Air Force Reserve Lt. Col. Terry Crist and Westlake resident Charlotte Ramser. Names of Westlake service members killed during U.S. wars will be read and a wreath laying will take place, before the playing of taps and a gun salute. The Westlake High School Band will perform several numbers throughout the program.
