Visitors to South Central Park will see a new sight, thanks to Dain Bartlebaugh. The 15-year-old North Ridgeville High School freshman built a GaGa Pit as a requirement for his Eagle Scout badge. Dain screwed together 24 wood planks to create the pit in a four-hour span.

The pit was recommended by Parks and Recreation Director Kevin Fougerousse.

“We saw an opportunity to add another amenity to our park system that will have an impact not only with kids but also adults,” Fougerousse said. “The game is for all ages and promotes physical fitness. I am looking forward to seeing it used all summer long.”

GaGa is a fast-paced sport similar to dodgeball. Players hit the ball at each other with their hands and are eliminated if the ball hits them on or below the knee. The object of the game is to be the last one standing.

Dain is a member of Troop 175, which meets at VFW Post 9871 on Lear Nagle Road. He has a few more requirements to meet before receiving his badge in the fall. Eagle Scout is the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America program. Scouts must earn 21 merit badges to qualify.
